Visa Pathways to Australia

Australia offers a range of visa subclasses to suit students, skilled workers, families, and future residents. 1. Student Visa (Subclass 500)

  • Must meet state-specific nomination criteria (occupation lists, work experience, English level, etc.)
  • Points-tested (minimum 65 points, higher scores preferred)

11. Skilled Work Regional (Provisional) Visa – Subclass 491

The Subclass 491 is a 5-year provisional visa that allows skilled workers and their families to live, work, and study in regional Australia. It leads to PR through Subclass 191 after meeting eligibility requirements.

  • State/Territory nomination
  • Family sponsorship (if you have a relative in a designated regional area)

Eligibility includes:

  • Nomination by a regional area
  • Positive skills assessment
  • Points-tested (minimum 65 points)
  • Commitment to live and work in a regional area for at least 3 years
  • Annual taxable income of at least AUD $53,900 for PR eligibility (191 visa)
  • Higher visa allocation for 491 in many states
  • More flexible requirements than 189/190 in some cases
  • Incentives to live in vibrant regional cities like Geelong, Ballarat, Adelaide, Hobart, and Toowoomba
